Catch Up Post
I’ve been back from my Convergence conference for a few days now but have been too busy to sit down and write anything. I think I was suffering from process-overload last week. So this past weekend I tried to engage my brain on a very limited basis. Most people that I encountered the past three days would attest to my success in this endeavor. Its actually been a really great weekend and pretty non-stop busy with events that required minimal thinking. Thursday night Common Ground began our October volleyball season. We played countless games of volleyball in the two-hour period and then just hung out and shot baskets for awhile.
Saturday I played my first 18 holes of golf at Oak Hills. This was my 5th actual game of golf but all the games prior had been 9 holes. Had a great time. It was a great day for golfing. I’m improving (or at least that is what I tell myself.) I made par twice which was great. But the best moment of the day was clearing the pond on the fourth hole. I’ve not done this once. Saturday – I not only cleared the pond . . . I cleared the entire hole and hit the ball halfway up the hill on the otherside. It was beautiful. Now, I sucked at getting it back to the hole after that but that first beauty of a shot was worth the entire day.
Saturday night I hung out with a couple of friends – grabbing a delicious dinner at Chilis. I had one of my favorite’s – the guiltless chicken platter! I highly recommend it. We met at 6:30 pm and I stayed around talking with one of them until after 10 pm. It was wonderful conversation and just a great blessing. I was really mindful this past week of how blessed I am with friends. Overwhelmingly so. You all are so great. I use to take friendship for granted but the past two years I have come to appreciate and value friendships and the community I have.
Last night, I watched the movie A Lot Like Love starring Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet. I’ve been wanting to see it since it was on at the theatres but rarely seem to watch movies these days. I really enjoyed it. Its a great little romance story and I have always liked Amanda Peet in whatever roles she playes. And Kutcher does a really great job in this film as well. Check it out sometime if you’ve never watched it.
Had a great lunch visit with Preston today. What a great way to celebrate the beautiful outdoors. It was a perfect day for sitting outside with good company, eating good food and talking about things of no apparent consequence. One might even call it "questionable mental scratching".
Oh – some of my youth decorated my Jeep Sunday night before Chi Alpha. They did a very nice job, I thought, even with Helias colors.
Time to wrap up for today. I have deacon’s meeting in 10 minutes and need to finish up a couple of things before I go. I’ll try to be better about posting this week.
